Health Minister Ben Bradshaw recently announced the go ahead for the community hospital at St Mary’s to include a stand alone birth centre for Portsea Island. The St Mary's campus will have
almost 100 beds (older persons and general rehabilitation, including some managed by GP's) as well as a day hospital, outpatients facilities and support departments, such as x ray and pharmacy.
Speaking in the House of Commons Sarah said "Parts of my constituency have high levels of deprivation with ill health consequences such as high levels of obesity, cancer and heart disease. I have
been asking for this to be recognised in additional funding and I welcome the announcement of the investment of £17 million into community facilities at St Mary's which will serve my
constituents. I hope that these new community facilities will enable us to provide outreach primary care both in people's homes and the wider community to tackle health inequalities."
