On Thursday 10th January, Sarah was the guest of honour at an army recrutiment and prizegiving ceremony in Portsmouth. 9 young men took their oath of Allegiance before
commencing training as members of PWRR, Hampshire's Infantry Regiment. Five of these young men came through the Military Preparation College (MPC) in Portsmouth which ensures young people have the
physical fitness, literacy and numeracy skills as well as the life skills necessary for todays modern Armed Forces. Sarah also presented prizes to the best students currently on the course. Not all
young people who take the course with the MPC go on to serve in the armed forces but the course is seen as an excellent preparation for any good quality career.
Sarah said "Many young people lack confidence and self-esteem, but all the young men and women I met today were with brimming with confidence and were a credit to the college and their parents. I
wish the Military Preparation College well as it expands its activities in Portsmouth and I hope many more young people choose to take this course, whether or not they wish to join the Armed
Forces"
